The Black Book of Colors by Menena Cottin and Rosana Faria offers a rare and beautiful glimpse into the world of a boy who experiences color by what he hears, smells, touches and tastes. The black paper with black raised line drawings help sighted readers focus on the word imagery in the book. The Braille translation is an added bonus. I’m putting this book on my list of ones to return to when our boy is old enough to appreciate it more.
My brother lost nearly all of his sight at age 50— progressed macular degeneration. My mother and uncle are 90% blind. I would like to share this book with them. I hope I can get it from the library. Interesting.
I have requested this book from the library and it is in transit.
Your students might enjoy the Spanish version too. The book was first published in Mexico.
