a good read

What’s a holiday without a good book? This year’s choice seemed especially rewarding. Charms for the Easy Life draws the reader in quickly and makers her want to keep reading to see how it all turns out.

The story of three generations of women involved in the medical field is set before and during World War II. The grandmother, who starts out as a midwife, establishes herself as a competent medical worker, able to treat a host of illnesses, often for the most needy families. The close relationship between grandmother and granddaughter makes the latter wise beyond her years, and a fitting narrator for the book.
