Lino Lakes is in the news today as the first Minnesota city to adopt English as its official language.
This “tough but forward thinking decision” is on the surface about not having to translate documents into other languages. But what’s buried beneath that surface could be disturbing.
I would support that law. I am a firm believer that if you want to live here…..do it legally and learn our language. I've always thought we go way overboard in translating phamphlets and other materials (esp in CA).
well, even if English is the official language there is still some obligation to make sure information is available in other languages…I did a paper on this when taking sociolinguistics or some other class for ESL teachers.
