Today is International Literacy Day. A good day to check in on global progress. The literacy rate has increased 8 percent within the last 20 years. Yet, one of six adults around the world is illiterate.
Eight years ago I was present for the start of a literacy program targeting immigrant women that had never had the opportunity to learn to read. It was a rewarding experience on many levels.
International literacy day coincides with the beginning of our school year. 🙂 I wonder how they measure literacy.
