a day in the kitchen

Dad’s apple tree had a bunch of apples just waiting for the picking. And Dad requested apple jelly. So I picked at least 25 pounds of apples, called my sister Amanda and set aside a day for canning. I’ve done freezer jelly before and frozen lots of fruit and vegetables, but it really was about time I learned the basics of canning.

We made apple sauce, apple jelly and apple butter. We divided up about 20 jars of the goods (some quarts, some pints and some half-pints). I sent her on her way and then made dinner, baked two batches of apple crisp and stirred up some squash bread. I got done cleaning the kitchen at about 9 p.m.

Energized by all that, I set to cleaning the living room… It’s so much easier to get things done when the boys are asleep.

  1. Wow! I guess it is amazing what a person gets done when there is someone else to help and some strong motivation. I wish I had been there instead of at work.
