books every child should read

What book would you put on the list of books every child should own? That was the question First Book asked blog readers recently. Over 13,000 readers weighed in, selecting from ten of the best selling titles at the First Book Marketplace. The winner?

Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss.

What book do you think every child should read?

(I’ll check with my five-year-old and add his response to the comments soon.)

  1. Hi, I found your site through a post on Make a Living Writing Website. I have done some writing for kids, I’m married but I don’t have any kids. I’m around them a lot through friends at Church. I love their open honesty. Your posts present that too.

Two early reader books I enjoyed (I still have copies) were Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and Harold and the Puple Crayon. My blog idea (Writing in Color – because Life is more than Black and White) was drawn from Harold. In fact, my second post was What Harold Taugh Me About Writing.
