I came across a Wall Street Journal article about high tech composting units. I’m intrigued by Nature Mill, a kitchen appliance that heats and churns kitchen scraps to produce usable compost in two weeks. Who knew?
Over the Independence Day weekend, we got ourselves a composting bin. It is a large garbage can to which I added holes in the bottom, sides and cover. Following tips from my sister (who has recently gotten into composting herself) and from the City of Vancouver I’ve got the first three layers in the bin – dried leaves, kitchen scraps and a sprinkling of dirt. A bunch of leaves await their turn be added as more fruit and vegetable scraps accumulate.
