Continuing education

I just finished writing an article about adult education courses that prompted me to learn more about OpenCourseWare. Now, MIT might be on to something, but I keep wondering how many people will take advantage of all that course material just there for the viewing–lecture notes, readings, reading lists, problem and answer sets, labs, videos and/or other relevant materials for some 1800 classes.

I consider myself a life long learner, but there’s something to be said for convening in a classroom and meeting deadlines that probably makes more learning happen for me. At the same time, it’s nice to know about a reliable source of information on a host of topics I’ve never gotten around to studying in a formal class.
